About the Artist

Sean Joy Rosario Cabanig is working on her BFA in metals as an undergraduate at California State University of Long Beach. If all goes well Sean expects to graduate at the end of this semester. She is originally from Los Angeles, but is now living in Long Beach. Overtime Sean has learned to value patience, perseverance and acceptance because she believes you can’t rush or skip steps with projects. On her own time the artist enjoys reading, but usually finds herself in “the studio.”

Formal Analysis

Sean typically works with copper and metal. The texture of the art pieces looks for the most part smooth as far as the jewelry pieces go. With the exception of the penis pieces which have a curves and a rough texture to them. Some of the jewelry appears to be heavy.

Content Analysis

One of the main ideas Sean intended to emphasize through this gallery is the “patience, perseverance and acceptance” that art truly requires. Sean described her work as a result of analysis; she says sitting and waiting for an idea of art to come to mind would take to long. So her art is inspired by her environment and surroundings.

Synthesis / My Experience

Walking into this gallery I was not sure what to expect after seeing the “mature content” sign at the entrance. Similar to the artist I feel I usually like getting different perspectives from people about my own personal beliefs, and I feel that through the penis pieces of art the artist was doing the same. While some people may view it as vulgar others may see it as humorous and possibly admirable. I enjoyed looking at the different reactions from people as the came across this piece of “art.” The different reactions people had made this gallery the most enjoyable one yet.
